Dump & Restore - Need Help

I dont have a tape drive. i want to backup a directory /home/vijay into /backup/home.bak . I executed the following command :-

dump -0f /backup/home.bak /home/vijay

Then i deleted an ordinary file from /home/vijay and tried to restore it using the following command :-

restore -rf /backup/home.bak

but it did not work. Can someone please help me out in this. this is urgent
