Dual opperating systems

Hello there,

I'm a total linux newbie and not even tried to run any distribution before. So i'm thinking about setting a new computer with Windows 2000 and having a Linux distribution running as a dual operating system. I was wondering the best way to go about this and what distribution is best for me?

The computer will be a 1 mhz computer.

Any help much appreciated.

Chris.

This is all over the web, but the general idea is:

1) Partition drive with space for windows (NTFS), linux (root, swap, and /home partitions) and a shared FAT32 partition which can be read by both Linux and Windows
2) INstall Windows
3) Install Linux, put bootloader in master boot record (MBR) - it should find the windows install
4) reboot and enjoy.

Take the following two quizzes to find a distro that might be right for you (although you might have to try a few before you really find one you like).

Only Windows users do dual boot.

In Linux we multi boot and 100+ systems are just as easy as booting 2 because the process is the same.

In Linux we only feel the need to say things once. Did we hit that "Submit" button more than once in a futile bid to speed up the old internets?

All 3 have been merged to save your blushes.
