Dual booting Redhat Linux 7.2 with Redhat Linux 7.3
 

Hi,
I have the Redhat Linux 7.3 server version running on a box. I also want to install Redhat Linux 7.2 on the same box in a dual boot configuration with the existing 7.3. I tried to do the 7.2 installation from the ISO CD-ROM's. During the installation process, I selected the option :

Keep all the existing partitions and use free space

However, with this selection the installer complains that it could not carry out the partitioning & could not allocate any primary partition for the new OS. I was using the 'automatic partitioning' tool provided with the installer. Could this be because the partitioner needs unformatted disk space to create the partition(s) for the new OS?

I would highly appreciate any feedback on the above problem and general guidance to get Redhat 7.3 dual booted with 7.2.

sorry to give a potentially useless reply... but i keep reading this and wondering why on earth you want to do this? what benefits do you think there might be in dualbooted two system that are as identical as possible without being the same thing...

but as far as the "free space" goes, it means un allocated space on the driev, not empty space inside partitions that already exist. you'd need to shrink the partition using fips, partition magic, parted or something

I think what he's doing is valid if he wants to test different versions of RH on his machine. I'm thinking about doing that myself for 8.0 and 8.1 (whenever that's ready).
