that is alot of info you need or want..

you might want to start off browsing the web for linux and reading up on it first before diving in.

try www.linuxdoc.org for all the documentation there in the howto's to start out with, it also has info on dual booting in the lilo howto's...

Like TrickyKid said, use the source man; however if you let RedHat install itself like it wanted to, you're going to be using GRUB as a bootloader. I'm preferential to LILO as is Tricky and well... nearly everyone else I know and most of the jokers here, so if you have yet to install RH, check LILO when it gives you the chance.

Don't try to switch bootloaders if you've already tried... its a nightmare to unscrew-up if you have to.

Running Windows apps is always going to require an emulator (wine, vmware and the like), which makes a reliable Linux box run like a slow un-reliable windows box... There's usually a parallel or an outright clone of anything you can hope to use under windows. Honestly, post the apps your interested in.

For burning: Xroast or Gcombust are my favorites...
