dual boot w/ separate hard drives?

Hi,
I have redhat 9 installed on an ATA drive that i would like to put into my machine. My machine currently has windows 2000 on a SATA drive which is on a separate controller. WHen i plug my linux drive into the ide controller it boots and works fine. Grub loads fine. My question is:
what do i need to add to get it to boot to windows also, since windows is on the SATA controller the normal method of adding "rootnoverify (hd...,....) chainloader +1" does not work. I have tried to use this using hd1,hd2,hd3... and none of these seem to work.
What do i need to add to get grub to boot to the w2k drive on the SATA controller?
Thanks

i may have misunderstood one of your statements, but linux uses the hda..hda1...hda2, hdb...hdb1...hdb2....., hdc...hdc1...hdc2......etc, could that be your problem?

yes, i know.
But in the grub.conf i believe the disks are reffered to as hd0, hd1... if i am not mistaken. In the grub.conf files on my other machines this is how they are set up.
Once i am in linux it can see my windows drive as "hde" but grub does not seem to be able to boot to that disk because it is on a separate controller(or so i am assuming) because when i place it on the ide controller it can boot.
Thanks
