Dual boot system - reinstall w2k?

I have a friend who has a dual boot system with W2K and Red Hat 7.3.

He wants to resize the w2k partitions and re-install w2k without affecting the linux partitions and without touching the boot record (where grub is installed).
He says w2k is on sda1 from linux's perspective.
He's mostly concerned with not messing up the MBR, I think.

Is that do-able? Will a reinstall of w2k screw up his MBR?
Is this do-able without paying for Partition Magic?

Any hints or suggestions?

thanks...

no - windows will "take over" mbr...you'll have to reinstall it
so for the partitioning, you can use fdisk in linux (i think dos too, but i'm not 100% sure - give it a try), but it'll cause data loss to changed partitions...PM does the "soft" partitioning...
so, i'd do it all from linux - fdisk to format and partition windows part.s and then reboot with win install cd, and when win is installed, boot with linux boot floppy, and once in linux, setup the boot loader
