Dual Boot Linux and Win2k
OK, I have learned what I think I need to do, I just don't know how to do it.. I will explain the situation..
I am running a compaq Armanda m700 with Red Hat 8.0 distro running smoothly on it.. OR it was... :( I needed to use Win2k as well as Red Hat so I had an extra partition set aside just in case I needed to do this.. I installed Win2k on it and Win2k now works smoothly. Well it seems that Win2k wiped the boot partition clean :(.. So now while I have two OS's running smoothly in the machine I can only access one of them.. I have learned that I need to just go back and reinstall Grub or Lilo either one (does anyone have a preference?) and it should recognize both OS's and then I can boot into either.. However every instruction that I find on how to install Grub hasn't worked.. I know it's on my distro's CD's.. Can anyone help so I can use my linux happily again?? Jason |

can we please try and stick to just one thread per question, thanks |
Boot of your install CD passing root=/dev/<your rh partition>
as a parameter to the kernel you start, and then do whatever steps it takes to get grub back ... (assuming that RH is at least half as clever as Slack ;}) For lilo all you'd have to do once you booted is edit /etd/lilo.conf (adding a Win2K section), then type lilo :) and reboot ... Cheers, Tink |
