DSL type computer status display


I do apologize if there is something like this somewhere else, but I've looked, and I can't find anything... so I figured I'd give it a shot and ask. Before we begin, though, I'll admit that, yes, I am quite the Linux newbie.

Anyways, I played around a bit with DSL after getting the .ISO in a linux Magazine I bought. I didn't quite understand how everything worked, but... that's besides the point. My question is, I am not running PClinuxOS, and I was wondering if their was any way to get something similar to that status menu in DSL in the top right. That's a really nifty little feature that I would love to be able to have, if someone knows where I can get something similar, or set it up if something like that exists within PCLOS.
