Downloading a new browser..help!!!

I just got Mandrake 8.0 installed and am using Netscape and want to download Opera web browser. However, when I click "Save link as" I get an error that says, "Error opening blah, blah. Permission denied". I have tried downloading a number of things and always get the same issue.

Please help!!!

Also, what directory would be best to download programs to, /usr?

Thanks a lot!!

you have write permissions in your home directory so you need to download to there, maybe make a folder called downloads. then when you extract and make the app, it ( the make process ) will move things to their proper locations.
