Downloaded Iso Has Problems
 

this is bout something strange that happened.
i downloaded the ubuntu iso cd image(intel x86)from one of their mirrors.the file downloaded ok.i burned it to a rewritable cd using sonic record now in windows.it went through the whole burning process,and gave an error in the end that disc was not correctly burned.
cursing for the time wasted,i rebooted anyway with the cd in the drive.to my surprise,it worked just fine.
then i thought,when the iso image is ok,why not get another cd
(normal single write type)burnt.so i went through the whole process again(it took lesser time 4min compared to 18 min for the rewritable cd)and got the same old error again.
i thought this cd would work as well,but on rebooting i got the initial boot screen,but then on giving the option"start live cd"i got an error"I/O error,cant read from disc.reboot".
i then made an exact copy of the rewritable disc(which had worked earlier)onto a normal disc.this worked just fine.it also took bout 4min to burn,though unlike the previous normal disc ,it took another 5min to"verify disc".
anyone knows whats happening??

Did you verify the MD5 checksums of the .ISO file that you downloaded?

no i did.i downloaded the checksum program but did'nt know how to use it.but the rewritable cd works just fine.?

Using the checksum program is pretty straight forward. From the website of Ubuntu, you can get the MD5SUMS of each .ISO file available for download.

Run the checksum program to find the MD5 sum of the .ISO file that you downloaded. In GNU/Linux, you can use the md5sum command for that. You can also refer to this post for equivalent programs in Windows : -

Make sure that the output sum string obtained while checking your downloaded .ISO is same as what is mentioned in the MD5SUMS file.
