I want to download wine.
but what file do i need to download if i use slack8.0 and thinkign to uptade to 8.1

It depends on what wine you are after. If it is one from http://www.codeweavers.com just grab the tarball, if it is winex project then get it via CVS at

or if it is the original wine get it from

Don't know about slack - but if you need to compile it yourself anyway you can have a look at winex,too - depends what you want to do with it. Winex is supposed to be better for games.
