Doubt with partitions

I have three partitions in my HD: sda1, sda2 and sda3. sda3 is in the beginning of the drive, sda1 in the middle and sda3 in the rest (see attached image).

I want to format sda3 and expand sda1(where my OS is installed) ocupating the new free area, but it is before sda1.

The question is: Is this operation dangerous?

I don't think that this operation is dangerous, but by all means, if you repartition your drive, backup all valuable data.

You should be Ok to do this as you can only expand into an adjacent partition. !

Thank you guys, I just wanted to be sure, because of the amount of data movement and time needed. I will try it tomorrow.

Make sure you run gparted from a live CD because you will not be able to resize a mounted partition. I also stress that you should back up all important data.

I booted the liveCD, expaded the partition and updated GRUB.
