Doubt on installing Ubuntu 9.04 over Fedora 11 Dual Boot.

Hi guys,
My friend asked me a while for a Linux Distro so I set up a Dual boot of his existing Vista and Fedora 10.Now when he wants to move upto Ubuntu 9.04.He apparently has Vista Loader 2.1.3 Installed on his Vista computer. He installed it later. Now I just want to know if reinstalling Ubuntu and a new Grub would make his windows reusable or is that Vista Loader only a boot level system that does not have a MBR code.Any help is appreciated.

All M$ systems from Dos to Win7 can be booted without the MBR.

Vista and Win7 use bootmgr that has its own MBR that can be repaired by BCDedit or the installation DVD.

It is perfectly safe to put Grub over the MBR in a Vista machine. Done this loads of time and I have Win2k, Xp and a couple of Win7 too.

Every boot loader has a facility to regenerate the MBR whenever needed. Vista's bootmgr is no different from the others. In that sense one can ask bootmgr to boot a Linux in exactly the same way asking Grub to boot a Vista. Grub needs about 1/3 of the work of bootmgr.
