DOS & Linux FAT16

I have FreeDOS in a QEMU image and a nifty tutorial told me how to open it like a folder via mounting. Now would editing this distort/distory it? I have done editing image files like this before with a UNIX-like on them, but never a dos based one, and it went fine. Thanks.

Linux versions usually are able to mount a wide variety of media. To Linux everything is a file, whether you can read and write to it is another matter.
