Do I need to install Windows 10 for SAMSUNG ODIN?

Samsung Odin is windows based ROM Flashing tool / Rooting tool specially made for Samsung smart Phones and tablets.
Well this bother me for quite a while.

I have a SAMSUNG SM-T580 Tablet since ~august 2017. The software is very poor. I see many ads which is bad on my mobile data plan.

--

Although SAMSUNG Austria already told me, that i should have informed me before I bought that hardware, nevertheless I have that tablet and I need a change in Software. Therefore AFAIK i need windows 10 and that ODIN software.

Please move the topic if it is in the wrong section. As I mostly use gentoo linux, I think it belongs here than.

I want to prevent installing windows 10. Takes several hours for someone who is not used to plus downloadig odin and reading xda developers pages... Very time consuming.

I am used to fastboot and adb.

What I want:

twrp on my samsung tablet sm-t580. So i can easily root and maybe use a custom rom.

the initial issue is, the loosing warranty with odin, becasue some hardware electrical fuse is blown, also known as the knox counter?

I dislike using software which claims to be from samsung, where no one really knows what it does or what it not does. => samsung odin

I'm also not sure if i just brick the device. This is my first samsung android device.

Heimdall is a cross-platform open-source tool suite used to flash firmware (aka ROMs) onto Samsung mobile devices.
Has anyone used that so far?
can you please name the device, when you did that procedure, the distro in question, the software version in question?

edit: short the text i wrote

I used Heimdall to root my sm-t580 using Ubuntu. Under the utilities tab, click on Detect, and you should see the Device Detected radio button selected, as well as Device Detected in the output box. Then under Download PIT, click on save as. A dialog box opens so that you can select a destination and name the file. Navigate to the folder of your choice, name the file and click on save. Once the dialog box closes, click on the Download button. You can monitor the progress in the output box. Hope this helps and let me know if need any help. I'll do my best.
One day something old post, so what

Hi,

Maybe use Android Forum for this type of question. It seems you can use a PC to flash the device but for specific Android question(s) then you should present to the proper audience.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

I asked there. Luckily I got a fast response there.

Well sometimes I am quite lucky to be motivated to start the next thing. I ask and than while completing my thoughts, fill up the post I find the answer myself.

As said the post was one day old on xda as I wrote the initial post. Quite fresh

I'll do that heimdall stuff on one of the next weekends
