Do I need a splash screen?

My system recently started displaying a Debian splash screen at boot. At some point, I must have accidentally installed splashy, because I just found it listed as installed in Synaptic. (As long as I've used MEPIS, it never came with a splash screen.) Is there any practical reason at all to keep a splash screen, any reason I shouldn't uninstall it? I don't want a splash screen at boot, because even though I don't understand most of the system messages, I can at least tell if anything is obviously wrong or unusual.

As far as I'm aware splash screens are purely cosmetic and it shouldn't break anything to remove it.

My systems don't get rebooted often enough to bother with splash screen. It is just eyecandy to make the system look more finished, also makes the system look less complex and scary to an inexperienced user.

Okay. Thanks. Well, I reboot regularly, because, crashes aside, I believe in shutting down to save electricity. Even though computers might be more energy-efficient than they used to be, not only is it a habit developed from using computers since the mid-eighties, but I'm frugal and see no reason for the computer to be on while I sleep.
