dmesg command vanished

I enter the dmesg command and it doesn't work. I get an error message that the command is not found. I'm not sure where the file for the command is normally stored, I thought it would be /bin, but it's not there. I've searched for bit and didn't find anyone else with similar problem.

The command worked a few days ago before I installed pidgin. I'm not sure if the pidgin install affected that file, but some of the pidgin dependencies required me to get an unstable versions of packages such as libatk and other lib packages.

First of all: Yes, that's correct, /bin is the directory dmesg should be in.

The package is util-linux. May be this information helps you.

Well, I thought maybe if I apt-get install util-linux that might get dmesg back, but I get this:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
util-linux: Depends: tzdata (>= 2006c-2) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

And if I apt-get tzdata it seems many important package will be uninstalled, so I'm not sure what to do.
