DivX with Linux
 

I am tring to find a video player that will accept divx files. Anyone have a lues?

you can find a plugin for XMMS here , haven't found any other player though...

not found one?? you've not exactly looked hard then. i recommend mplayer http://mplayerhq.hu it's bloody brilliant and can play most video files if set up properly. also contains a superb little divx encoder. i'm currently 60% though encoding a muppets documentry from dvd to divx... :D

There are one problem with mplayer - it colud not be compiled with gcc 2.96 - so it cold not be compiled in RedHat 7.2 :(

You can find xine at www.freshrpms.net(enigma.freshrpms.net for RH 7.2) that should play divX ;-) for you. It needs the win32 codec dlls.

And its an rpm.

2.96 is a slightly broken release, made by redhat, it doesn't compile properly, but redhat decided to use it anyway. you can just give an option to ignore the error to MPlayer at ./configure. Alternatively just install a newer version of gcc. MPlayer whups Xine's ass completely.
