Distro-Developer Questions.
I have a couple of Linux Developer questions that I would like to field. I was just wondering what the answers to these questions were and I'm to wrapped up in other things to research it myself. This is Not a homework question.
1-Do Distro Developers mostly just write updates. In general and broad terms ,what do they spend their time on after a Distro is available for download on a mirror?
2-How are ;example Debian , based Distros like Mint and Ubuntu connected to Debian? Do they just adapt Debian's Packages to their own O.S? Or ,what makes Ubuntu a Debian based O.S?
Distribution: Debian Wheezy, Jessie, Sid/Experimental, playing with LFS.

No they don't mostly write updates, updates come from upstream developers of the individual applications or desktop environments such as Gnome or LibreOffice. Distro developers put the entire package together that makes the distro itself (base Linux and GNU components such as the kernel and compilers, Desktop environments such as Gnome KDE etc, and last but not least applications and user tools such as LibreOffice etc). Distros like Debina whose manin aim is stability do write security fixes and patch the apps they have to make them secure but they also pass those patches to upstream.

Check out the Debian Derivatives website and associated links to answer this question.
