Disply configuration in Red Hat 8.0

I have installed RH 8.0 in my computer, a PII 350 with 64 of RAM, i got no problems during the instalation, but when i try to run the KDE this message appears:

$Display is not set

my video card is a trident TGUI9440, and i set this in the x-window configuration.
i changed the video card three times
in despite of what i did, the problem wasn't solved.

but during the installation process i used the graphical mode, so, does anyone can help me?

That may not be a video card problem but a monitor problem. Other than that I dont know. Try taking a look at your /etc/X11/XF86Config file under the monitor section to see if anything looks fishy.

XFree86 config

I think that RedHat has a tool called Xconfigurator (or something like that - sorry I haven't touched Redhat in like 3 years)

But for sure try this

XFree86 -configure

that will auto-magicly generate you a new XFree86 config file. That should give you a starting point to get the X config file started on the path to working. If you used the RedHat graphical setup then you should be capable of at least 800x600 (if memeory serves that is the gui setup resolution.)

and you can use "setup" to select your options

and reset the video card and your monitor .

try to detract the monitor parameters

PII350+64M...I advise you don t use KDE desktop, select the GNOME!

Display problem solved

I retracted my display resolution and it worked, now i'm able to use RH.
Thank you friends.
