I have gone through XConfigurator and the OS won't accept the values I have given for the display vert/horz sync rates. It does work though at the 640*480 @ 16pix. I can not change the resolution in KDE and I think this is due to a memory problem. I have resigned myself to this setting until I can afford to increase RAM but need to adjust how the words are displayed. Everything pretty much displays alright except for the text. I can't read it - makes things very difficult while in the GUI. I am currently running RedHat 7.2 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 430CDS. I have the docs so I know that I am entering the correct values but I don't know the type of monitor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate. If it is a memory issue please let me know so I don't keep trying things and wasting peoples time.

Your gonna want to go to Toshiba's site and find out the correct or manufacturer of the monitor and video. Then you can goto http://www.xfree86.org to find out if it is supported or not or what version of xfree86 you might need to have to support. If all else fails, try this site, it is a laptop site and has a huge list of laptops that have been configured to run Linux on:

run Xconfigurator , your video card is a c&t 65550 , so far the only thing I can get running on my 430cds is 800x600 8bit, I have 32 MB of memory, Are you running less than that? OH yea, I too am running RH 7.2 but will probably fall back to RH 6 since 7.2 runs a little slow for my liking.
