Display Command

Is anyone familiar with how to use the display command to display an image (jpg/gif) on another workstation running X?

I tried reading the man page but could not figure it out or is there another command to display an image on another terminal running X (similar to write or echo but using pictures instead of text)?

Thanks in advance.

First set your $DISPLAY to whereever you want the program to appear, then run the program.

For example:
Code:
DISPLAY=k9:0.0 emacs
Now in the case of fewing images you could do something like
Code:
DISPLAY=k9:0.0 feh myImage.png
You can set the DISPLAY for a session with the export command
Code:
export DISPLAY=k9:0.0

Alright!!!! I finally got it to work.
Actually, all you have to do is:
check set to display what display you are running (ex. 0.0)
then issue command:
display -display :0.0 file.jpg

Do you know if there is a way for you to check what display other users have on an network (example would be viewing another terminals set config)?

Thanks for your help.

Most X programs has a -display switch for doing what you want without disturbing your $DISPLAY variable.

Try:

display -display some_host:0.0 picture.jpg

This should display picture.jpg on some_host. There are other capabilities of the display command, but this should get you started. -mk
