and the fact of the matter is anyways, is that any distro can install easily under 1GB, it just depends what you tell it to install in the setup
Thanks for the valuable info. I need it for migrating the workstations to Linux soon!
I've been trying to squeeze Fedora to install under 1GB preferably 640 MB to allow space for the client computers without sacrificing the neat feature of GUI. I must say I've failed on that. The Workstations have about 2GB HD.
Windows9x can fit about 600MB with all the neat stuff.

If anybody knows other Linux distros please do tell me.
If anybody knows other Linux distros please do tell me.
d00d like i said, all distros are capable, it just depends on how much stuff you select during package selections ..
but if you want it out of the box to be under a gig, then check out the
from the exact same page i gave you http://old.lwn.net/Distributions/index.php3#cd
and what michaelk has recommended ..
I a newbie and I just don't really know the packages to deselect most of the packages under a category are preselected.
This is what I want the workstation to have:
GUI - or Desktop Environment
OpenOffice
Email, Browser
Network Detection and Sharing
Printing to network of course.
No development tool. (Just a simple network client)
Linux GUI should gracefully run in
Pentium 133MHz
32MB RAM
2GB HardDisk.
In essence, the same functionalities of Win98 Client computer.
What I've found is
Vector Linux
Peanut Linux
Damn Small Linux (but according to my friend it does not have all power apps.)
There's just too many Distro and I, frankly, cannot cover them all. A little help would really be appreciated because I need to decide soon on the right Distro to install for workstations with the above specs.
I'll do my best to search for other distro. I'll have to know if the community support is also strong because I'm afraid it would be just a distro that dissapears out of the blue. I hope I don't make a wrong decision. Your inputs are greatly appreciated.
