disappearing icons...::sigh::
 

heylo people,

ive been trying to get a livejournal client to work in linux, and running the typical ./configure, it gives me a gtk error saying my version is not >1.2.0....however i know this isnt true because i run mandy 8.1, where the version is 1.2.10 i believe.

anyways, thats not my problem. as i was doing this, my desktop in gnome disappeared....no icons, and no right click. center click works, as well as the background, but no desktop interactivity....all the files still exist in .gnome-desktop, yet no visual...anyone have any ideas to either problem? thankz guys.

oh by the way...logging out, or restarting does nothing, just incase you wondered......

For the ./configure problem, mandrake and most other rpm based distro's put gnome and kde in /usr but the default is /opt, the configure script is probably looking in /opt for the libs. You need to point it to the location where mandrake installed the gnome libs with the either ./configure --prefix=/*location* or ./configure --with-*missing flies=/*where they are*. The install document that came with the src will have the correct info. I can't help you with the missing gnome icons as I don't use gnome.

I haven't used gnome in a long time, but try this. Center click on the desktop and see if there is an option to regenerate the menus. If there is, select it and wait a few minutes for it to get done. Then right click the desktop and start up a terminal window and run gmc & and see if that restores your icons.

nope, doesnt work. the center click trick that is...i am still puzzled. :cry: :confused: neither work actually...i have no idea where gtk is, nor how to install prop[erly....i feel like such a newbie..::sigh::
