Disappearing Hard Drive Space

I've come across something very strange. I have a 6 GB partition that claims that it's full (I can't write anything to it) although when I run the df command, it shows me the following:
Code:
/dev/hdb17 6144636 4445672 1698964 73% /mnt/hdb17
I read about this problem in other places, but the problem would go away after a reboot. This problem persists through reboots. The partition type is reiserfs. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.
