Disapearing CD-Rom


ok... my cdrom drives no longer work...
i can't think of anything that i did wrong...
if i look at the last bunch of lines from a "dmesg" i see what might be the problem:

ide-floppy driver 0.99.newide
Uniform CD-ROM driver unloaded
hdc: driver not present
ide-floppy driver 0.99.newide
Uniform CD-ROM driver unloaded
hdd: driver not present
ide-floppy driver 0.99.newide
Uniform CD-ROM driver unloaded
hdd: driver not present
ide-floppy driver 0.99.newide
Uniform CD-ROM driver unloaded
hdc: driver not present
ide-floppy driver 0.99.newide
Uniform CD-ROM driver unloaded
hdc: driver not present


what is going on? if i boot into redhat from an old kernel x fails, but i can mount my drives... ????

I guess you haven't added CD-ROM support to the kernel. The CD is hdc, and you haven't enabled the driver. Goto ata/ide/... and select "Include IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM support". I bet that's missing.

huh? how do i "go to" ata/ide????

and if it helps... they were working this morning
