Disabling Kudzu on RH8...is it ok?

Hi

AFAIK Kudzu (on my RH8 PC) is a Hardware Probe service (please correct me if I'm mistaken). One of the bootup messages is something like "probing for new hardware..."

- Does this service have to be *on* all the time?
- Can I disable this "service" and for now and enable before I change any hardware components?

I don't have any problems with it, just that it takes some time to complete the probe.

I would appreciate any tips / guidance on this.

TIA & Regards
theN

shouldn't be be a problem at all

chkconfig --level 3 5 zudzu off

should turn it off, not sure about the "3 5" syntax, might need 3,5 or similar.

you don't need it unless you install new hardware. Then after it detects your new hardware you can turn it off again.
