digital camera on usb

I have a digital camera. Using SuSE 8.0 with KDE3.0.
In gtkam and in Control Center Peripherals->Digital Camera and in USB Devices the camera is recognised correctly - both make and model. Unfortnunately I get the message - cannot initialise camera where should I start to look for a remedy.

I use usb for scanner and as I say the camera is recognised as a device
