Difficult to explain-Console Cursor Problem

I have reinstalled gentoo on my server and have been blasted with problem after problem. I had it working great before but I had decided to scrap my ntfs partition and divide that space into my linux partitions, I goofed and trashed my partitions thus the reinstall.

I'm doing great at finding most of the issues but this one is driving me nuts. I dont really know how to explain it though. The boot process scrolls from bottom left up as it should, then during the last few initializations the cursor jumps to the middle of the screen and it stays there but text entry works as it should. As I type, text appears where it should BUT the cursor on the middle of the screen moves as it would if it was where it should be.

example
Code:
<snip>
* Cleaning /var/lock, /var/run...                           [ok]
* Cleaning /tmp directory...                                [ok]
* Loading key mappings ... [ok]
* Setting term_inal encoding to ASCII ... [ok]
* Setting user font ... [ok]
* Starting lo ...                                           [ok]
* Bringing up lo ... [ok]

server login:
notice that the underscore cursor is up on 'Setting terminal' As I type my login, my login will appear where it should and the cursor up on 'setting terminal' will move right with each keystroke. Weird huh? Any ideas?

This is weird, perhaps you've loaded something wrong in the kernel? Are you using framebuffer? If you are, try not using it and maybe that will cure the problem. Just a suggestion.

[solved]

Apparently it was conflicting display drivers compiled into my kernel. While installing the nvidia drivers I looked to make sure the kernel didnt have any nvidia drivers compiled in (per gentoo documentation) and noticed I had nvidia *and* VESA compiled in. After selecting *ONLY* vesa, recompiled kernel, then reboot, the cursor stayed where its suppose to.

Just thought I'd post this in case anyone else has this problem
