..differences between linux distributions ...

Hi all!

Does anyone know a paper or a link to a document that describes how certain thing is done in one distribution (eg Slack) and how i should do it in another distro? For instance, Slackware does not have the /etc/rc.d/init.d/ or /etc/init.d directory, instead, it uses /etc/rc.d/. So, say i wanted to stop or start the network in other distro, i would type /etc/rc.d/init.d/network start/stop, but to do the same thing in Slack i'd type /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 start/stop. Hope my question makes sense.

Thanks

Most distros use the method that you are familiar with. Slack is relatively unique in its difference of init scripts. Gentoo has a special tool to manage the init scripts. As for a specific site mentioning what you asked for, I know of no such thing. You'd have to google for it or check the wiki here. The distro sections might give a bit of an insight.

Hope that helps

Alex
