Difference Between Suse & Redhat
Dear Experts,
Anybody can tell me Major Differences between Suse Linux & Redhat Linux ?? Thanking you in Advance Regards Pakuson |
Well for starters the free version of Redhat is no longer maintained. There is Fedora Core which is from the Redhat people but I've only heard bad things about it. SuSE is very newbie-friendly, kind of bloated and uses KDE as it's default desktop. Redhat/Fedora seems to me to be more development-oriented whereas SuSE is more a desktop distro but both can easily used for either.

Major difference - Red Hat produce Red Hat, Novell produces SuSE. If you tell us what it is you want to know about these 2 rpm based distros, we can give you better answers.

Difference Between Suse & Redhat
Dear XaverP,
I m not that much kid who don't know that Redhat produce Redhat and Novell Produce Suse. If you know technical Difference between them then tell me otherwise thanx for your reply. Friends, I want only Technical Difference. Regards Pakuson |
If you want help then don't be so vague in your question. The difference is that they use different versions of different packages and there are MANY different packages. No one could list off hand the differences, and certainly there aren't that many differences that are particularly 'technical', just the versions they use.
Try them both, see which you like, then use slackware :) |
The difference is that one is more bloated than the other, though I'm not sure which one this is.
|
pakuson - none of us here is psychic. If you really want to know the differences, go to their respective homepages and read the changelogs. Also read up on all the documentation behind each implementation of all files/folders/security/protocols/etc/etc on each distro.
Vague questions get vague and flippant answers. Remember: LQ is a help site, no a personal search engine. |

what you mean with Technical Difference? both are rpm based distros. is that what you mean? btw, rpm comes from "redhat package management". default desktop is important? Suse uses KDE and RedHat gnome. Suse has something called Yast and RedHat has something also.... and so on... regards slackie1000 |
My -- very personal -- opinion:
Better download a free (of charge) Linux and spend the money on buying good books or printing some important docs... ...or supporting FSF. |

You also should not resurrect old threads, this thread is from 2005. |
If this is a general question, there is no significant technical difference between SUSE and Red Hat. Both are built on the Linux kernel.
If it's a detailed question, there are differences in many bits between SUSE and Red Hat. For example, if you're interested in administrative tools, SUSE and Red Hat configure their tools based on different philosophies. |

I also suggest that use LQ spell check in reply window. Select the underlined text by right click and a list of words will provide suggested replacement word. BTW, the original post date is over 6 years old. Do not resurrect old threads unless absolutely necessary. In this case it should not have been done. |
santoshkumar5266's post is what i might label as a "possible bot" posting
