ok i got half a dozen machines on my router, most of them dual boot puppy and windows, some triple boot into other stuff(grub4life). im all networked with remote access and everything.....but
... i want one to do dialup.

thus far i have made a big knot puzzle out of phone cord......

right now to get a usable dial tone, i have to unplug my router, this sucks.

my reckless trial and error has led me to belive that pluging my modem into th wall will not work...no combination of telephones, modems, and those little phone silencer/filter things will get me a clean dial tone...

is this impossible? i worked at radioshack, i learned that you can do almost anything with enough cables and adapters
maybe im just a newbie idiot and this is really easy. or maybe im just a newbie idiot and this is impossible.....

If you cannot get a dial tone with just a phone (not modem) hooked up, then you need to contact your phone company. While I don't (yet) have any experience with (a)dsl, my impression from what I've read is that if the phone works, then subsituting a dial-up modem for the phone should work also.

In either case, I thought the set up was:

phone jack <--> filter <--> phone or dial-up modem
