dial up

Hi, I am new to Linux and I just installed Mandrake 9.0 and I can't seem to get online... It doesn't reconized my modem..
My modem is a conexant soft 56 K fax/data...now I really would like to use it to go online... could it be my modem drivers? also if I change these drivers ,Then will it affect my windows 98 from running right ??
Any help would be so cool...
Thanks...

the short answer is to yank that cheap garbage out of your machine and get a real modem. the long answer is here, http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/...l-modem-HOWTO/

good luck, your going to need it.
