i install a linux and then installed a dial in server and was able to make it work , a win98 was able to dial in and connect to the internet, so i thought it was okay i decided to reboot the linux and then on booting i saw a message it read,

bringing up interface ppp0: failed

and worse when the win 98 machine dials in it gets disconnected.

Maybe you have not saved the configuration? Try to configure everything onece more, manually. Then chceck all config files if they're correct. Maybe it's just a spelling mistake?
