device is busy, cant eject drive

Hi all,

silly question here but eject tells me:

umount: /media/cdrecorder: device is busy
umount: /media/cdrecorder: device is busy
eject: unmount of `/media/cdrecorder' failed

which is obviously quite straight forward. I need to terminate the application using the drive. But how do I know which application that is? I terminated all I can think of might be using it but device is still busy. Im sure there is a good way to find what process is accessing the drive or?

I dont have root for this computer..

I cant remember. I never have to use it much. I believe it is fsuser well something "user". You might want to make sure no filemanagers or shells are in the directory where you cdrom is mounted.

Hi,

that's "fuser" command to know which process uses your device

If it contains files (ie not a music CD), you may try "lsof" as well. It lists all open files/directories.

Note also that the PWD (present working directory) of none of your processes may be under the mount point (directory where the cd is mounted on, ie /mnt/cdrom, /media/cdrom or alike).
This means that, if you have for instance a terminal still open where you've cd'ed to a directory under
that mount point, you can't eject (unmount) the cdrom.
