Desktop speed?
 

I am running RH8, Kde, and Opera 7.
I am wondering what are some things i can do to speed up my desktop?, Like any files i can modify or any processes I can stop running that i dont need. Thanks.

a few things

1. make sure you have proper drivers for your video card
2. (if your looking for desktop performance) update your kernel to include the latest -ck patch or upgrade the latest -mm patch of 2.6
3. post the output of ps -A here

4. unless your really really attatched to KDE ditch it and go wiht somethign mroe lightweight my personal favorites are blackbox and enlightenment blackbox being the lighter of the two but enlightenment still pretty lean

Im not tied to it, I tried to install Window Maker but it didnt install right and i get all kinds of errors and i dont know how to uninstall it, I also just tried to update my video drivers and got errors there to. whats the easiest way to uninstall programs? thanks again.

If you're running RH the easiest way is... uh... rpm -uvh? Something. Anyway, there's an uninstall command for rpm's. If your compiling from source you could see if 'make uninstall' works or - too late, but - get 'checkinstall' and it will turn tarballs into slackpacks or rpm's or whatever and they're uninstalled with the package manager.

ps is the command that lists running processes
-A tells ps to select all running processes

How do i cut and paste from the console? Theres just paste and that dosnt work, I think thats for something else anyway.

Just drag with your left mouse button to select and middle-click in your browser window to copy it there.
