Dell 1503 FP 1024x728 problem using Redhat 9

Hi this is my first question, any help will be greatly appreciated. I am having an issue with my Dell 1503 FP using Redhat 9. When I have the resolution set to 1280x960 the screen looks great. If I set the resolution to 1024x768 or below the screen has a black line about 1cm down the left side of the screen(the normal screen will start to the right of the vertical black line). I have searched and can not find information on this issue. If it matters I have a NVIDIA GeForce 2 mx. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

It matters. Install the kernel src for your kernel
ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/updates/9/en/os/SRPMS/kernel-2.4.20-19.9.src.rpm
Make sure you installed the associated updated kernel for 9.0. It's in the i586 directory.

rpm -Uvh kernel*

Then do this:

At the command prompt. Type

init 3
wget http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L...-4496-pkg2.run
chmod +x NV*
./NV*

Go through and install the driver. Reboot.

Try to change resolution again. You'll notice quite a bit of difference.

As an addendum, after you update your kernel, reboot. Choose the new kernel that was installed if it gives you the option.
