Softlink is basically the same as a shortcut in Windows. In a terminal as root (su) ln -s pathtoFileRunner/fr /usr/bin/fr This will place fr (the FileRunner executable) in your path. Afterwards fr in a terminal will start FileRunner. There is no compiling needed.

With the amount of recommended documentation I have read over the last few days my head is absolutely spinning. I have successfully installed 'FileRunner' in Lycoris (to /usr/lib/Filerunner and the run command is $ fr &) and it works perfectly.

I tried installing it in Mandrake 9 and it installs to the same address, however it also installs the file 'fr' to /usr/x11R6/bin/fr and using the same syntax I get one of two messages:

if I click the icon: file fr not found
if I use the command line: Line 3: exec: wish: not found

Drinking is rapidly becoming an alternative pastime

Mandrake will indeed drive you to drinking. It's only redeeming quality. IMHO FileRunner has a dependency TCL or TK which is loaded by default in most distros but not Mandrake. It also does not give a dependency error, when you install fr but it's on the CDs.

Thank you Allen614. I have learned a lot from this forum one way or another but I guess I still have a way to go. In the meantime it's back to the drawing board.
