Deleting email from Thunderbird inbox using Knoppix

Hi Guys,

I have a questions regarding deleting email from Thunderbird. My email client(Thunderbird) is loading very slowly to retieved all my email that I stored in the inbox.

Thunderbird just frozen when I tried to access the inbox (my waiting time around 1-2hours and there is no accomplishment). I am planning to delete the old email, using knoppix because My OS is not Linux, but Windows XP.

Do you think I will be able to use VI editor to edit the Thunderbird mailbox and delete the older email from there? Hopefully I can reduce the mailbox size to 512MB, currently my mailbox is 1GB.

Thank you in advance for the informations.

Try it and you'd find out.

If it doesn't work, you may want to split up your mail--procmail should be good for that, but it's not easy to figure out at first.

Also, you could split up the files into, say, 100MB chunks (using dd), then moving the slack from the end of one file to the beginning of the next. It's probably tedious work, but if nothing else works...
