deleted by mistake .thunderbird


I deleted by mistake with shift+del the .thunderbird folder and I had lots of e-mails stored inside. Help me

Uh oh... I can not be of great help, but don't touch anything until someone gives you some advice on how to rescue the lost files! Don't write anything on the disk, if you want to have a chance!

Just restore the folder from the backup that you made.

Also, what filesystem are you using?

cgjones was being a bit of a smart-aleck to make the point that it is good to make backups.

There are good file-recovery tools running around--try seraching here or on Google, using "ext3 file recovery".

Again, don't write to the disk. If the data is really valuable, make a clone before attempting recovery.

That was really stupid. Thanks for your help guys, I have an old backup of .thunderbird and I hope not lots of mails got deleted. These methods are rather difficult for me. Thanks for your time

P.S. Backup every week

Guilty as charged.

I've read before that you can't recover files from ext3.

But as pixellany pointed out, there are definitely tools out there that supposedly allow you to recover the data. I think it is just a question of how much time/money are you willing to invest in recovering the files you lost.
