surely you just want to reformat it? why delete it and recreate it atgain? you'll end up where you were! just use "mkfs.ext3 /ded/hda10"

Hi,

I also faced a similar problem with my Debian box. Boot from the Fedora CD, use the linux rescue
feature, boot your root partitionand type cfdisk. It's a quite good app for partitioning... then install fedira in the new partition..
Hope it helped (cfdisk and the above example are ftom Debian, but I think the procedure should be similar!)

Have fun with Fedora!

NOTE: if your partition is not the root partition, you can also normally boot in linux and there use
cfdisk!

going by what's in the post, i'd say they really don't need to go that far. if this partition is just some normal, non-critical partition, then you'd not even need to reboot, let alone use a rescue CD. just make sure the partition is not mounted or anything.

NOTE: USING CFDISK WILL REFORMAT YOUR PARTITION!

no, it won't. it is for creating and deleting paritions, not filesystems. so no formatting will take place. And as such, doubt it's somethign that is applicable for use in this case.

Thumbs up O

Thankyou very much .., It works fine

mkfs.ext3 /dev/hda10

Now i have similar doubts

1.

If i want 2 make the file system as vfat,ext2 or reiserfs , are the following commands are correct?

mke2fs /dev/hda10 -T vfat

mke2fs /dev/hda10 -T ext2

mke2fs /dev/hda10 -T reiserfs

2.

could i also make ntfs in the similar manner?

mkfs mkfs.ext3 mkfs.jfs mkfs.reiserfs
mkfs.cramfs mkfs.jffs mkfs.minix mkfs.vfat
mkfs.ext2 mkfs.jffs2 mkfs.msdos mkfs.xfs

Try "man mkfs" and "man mke2fs

No, you can't format ntfs with linux tools. Even if it's possible I wouldn't do it.
