Question Default Kernel question

Is the kernel 'configured and built' during installation? Or is it the
one that's standard across all installations?
And where is the configuration file stored for the default one.

I have this question because, whenever I compile my own kernel,
a few options are missing in it which are otherwise present in
the default one. If I know where conf file is, may be I can reuse it
to build my kernel.

Thanks,
Ravi

no the kernel is not compiled during install, it's a standard one. most kernel rpm's will put their own gonfig file in /boot/config.2.4.7 or something. check there. if not, get the source rpm for the kernel and use it from there

What options are missing?

There could be patches that you have in one kernel source tree and not the other.

Also the 2.2 kernel is very old
