default icon placement in gnome desktop


basically, i want the desktop icons to be at the bottom, i've moved the trash and home icons there but whenever i put a usb drive or a cd of create any folder it goes to the up right corner. i've searched through all of gconf-editor and can't find anything

Try Applications > System Tools > Configuration Editor > apps > nautilus. I seems to remember that the Config Editor appears under a different heading on some distros, you'll need to check what is proper in your case.

no, i can find gconf-editor. what i can't find on it is any parameters where i can change the defaul icon placement.

Well, this may work only partially but have you unchecked "keep aligned" from the context-menu after clicking your desktop? And have you tried adjusting nautilus preferences from the menu bar?
