debian syslog defaults

hi all,

i just checked my /etc/syslog.conf and saw
Quote:
*.*;auth,authpriv.none -/var/log/syslog
so it's like a catchall ? i wonder why the default setting is something alike ... also

Quote:
*.=debug;\
auth,authpriv.none;\
news.none;mail.none -/var/log/debug
why are these 2 settings not commented out by default? this is (depending on the system usage) a performance decrease IMHO ...
