Debian install problem: CD-ROM and SATA
I've been running into an odd problem when trying to install Debian on my new box. The installer fails to detect the CD-ROM device. It then asks if I would like to manually load a module, but none of the modules in the list work. I feel that my SATA hdd is a factor, but can't prove it. Here is what the BIOS recognizes:
IDE Master 1: HDD IDE Slave 1: None IDE Master 2: DVD IDE Slave 2: None The SATA hdd is a 10,000 RPM Western Digital 74 GB. The actual CD-ROM device is a Sony DVD RW DW-U14A. I also tried booting from Knoppix with no luck. Knoppix recognizes the Sony, but then locks when mounting the device at /dev/scd0. I looked around through LQ and haven't found anyone with this problem. Also google.com/linux returns no helpful results for this situation. FYI: The boot option I am supplying is linux26 when booting the Debian CD (which is the sarge-i386-netinst ISO). Any ideas? |
