I got my resolution set really nice but cannot print?
type 'init 1'
then log in
then 'vmware-config-tools.pl' and answer the questions
then type 'init 5' and log in
then open up a terminal and type 'vmware-toolbox &'
then just minimize the window.....let me know if that works for you
I know this topic is old, but in case anyone find this in the search of the answer.
The reason that x will not start is because vmware changes the mouse when it edits XF86Config-4
Change it to /dev/psaux/ instead of /dev/mouse as Vmware sets it to.
Also be aware that it changes the keyboard to us if you use anything else
