Debconf says I have no active swap space

I've seen this the last several times I reinstalled my distro, and have meant to ask about it. When I upgrade Debconf to the latest version, it reports I have no valid swap space. I didn't know why it would say that, because of course I have one--about 20 GB. Then I finally bothered to click Help, and found: "The swap file that was found in uswsusp's configuration file is not active." I guess that means uswsusp doesn't know the location of my swap partition? Where is uswsusp?--I don't know where to look for it.

This has not seemed to affect my system, except that the help dialog says I will be unable to use software suspend. I guess that means if I fix it, I will probably be able to make the system hibernate instead of having to shut down; it's been years since I could get it to hibernate.

Is your 20GB swap space a partition marked as swap in the partition table, AND has had "mkswap" performed on it?

Ehh...all I'm sure of is that I formatted it to linux-swap and then set it to "swapon." In Gparted.
