Unhappy dd Input/output error

I get this when trying to read a psx game. I just bought Xenogears online and there is a scratch on the second disk, so I wanted to try making a copy of it to be sure it is readible.

However...

localhost standalone # dd if=/dev/cdrom of=xenodisk1.iso bs=2k
dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error
0+0 records in
0+0 records out

Neither disk works, but other cd's copy fine. The disk does contain data, though.

localhost standalone # mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom/
mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only
localhost standalone # ls -l /mnt/cdrom/
total 297

You could try to use ddrescue, it will a) try a bit harder and
b) tell you where it's at in its attempt to grab data.

The fact that you can get a directory listing just means that
the area that holds information about the disks content is
intact, not that the data is.

Cheers,
Tink

The data on disk one is definitely intact, because it plays in epsxe.

And you know for sure that you've "touched" every sector of the
CD in your fairings?
