Question data loss on FAT32-Partition

My FAT32-Partition is accessible from Windows 2000 and Redhat 8.0. Writing from Windows 2000 is no problem, but if I write to FAT32 from Redhat, then I loose sometimes the newly written data.

I realized, that the data are only lost, when I hilbernated Windows before writing to FAT32 from Redhat. After resuming Windows the newly written data are lost. If I on the other hand shut down Windows before writing to FAT32, the data are kept.

Does someone know the reason for that ?

I think, that the reason for the data loss is the hilbernate mode in Windows. When I write from Redhat to the FAT32-Partition, the file allocation table is changed, but after resuming Windows, Windows doesn't know this, because (I think) it doesn't reload the (changed) file allocation table and uses the one it "hilbernated".

I can live with this problem, but if anyone would know, how I can tell Windows to load the changed file allocation table, after resuming, I would be happy.

I think you have left out a complete description of your configuration. Also, what are you viewing to determine that you need to 'load the changed file allocation table'? If it is windoze explorer, try right clicking and refresh to update.
