I am curios of how to customise a linux distro, make your changes, slap your logo onto it, and distribute your new distro. I have heard about this and I would like to know how to do it.
First of all it's LinuxFromScratch=LFS, not LFX, found at http://www.linuxfromscratch.org.
Next, it is far more recommended to customise the Linux installation you have on your computer for yourself and not to create a new distribution. By the way you ask I don't see what could you bring new into the Linux distributions "market" except for a logo. There are already too many distros.
If you like being creative, until you create your own distro, try doing something more useful, like writing a better driver or an improved file manager.
sorry, i knows its not LFX, i accidently put the x because i was thinking i was typing linux or something.. i didnt bother to re-read my post i didnt think it was possible to screw up such a short one! i win!!
I am a systems integrator and I have been installing windows on my systems for way too long now. I'm a full linux user (SuSE). I by no means want to keep selling systems with ms because of all the crap they're pulling with patents and stuff. I really want to sell it with linux but I want to sell my own distro. Should I go with LFS or could I possibly build on an already existing distro? Any information on building on an existing distro would be greatly appreciated.
I happen to have a Gentoo 2004:2 CD that came with a magazine I bought on vacation. I'll install that on something when I get done converting my last computer to linux (my really old laptop). How well does it dual boot?
dule booting is fine.......becouse you make your own grub.conf file
and always remember to FOLLOW the instructions on gentoo.org you cant really go wrong if you do.
and when you get to the kernel emerge gentoo-dev-sources it rocks
it says to setup like this
/dev/hda1 boot
/dev/hda2 swap
/dev/hda3 /
so If I have a windows install on /dev/hda1
then I usaly right down on a peice of paper next to me this so I can remember it when I do my mounting and configuring
